Using ACV for Acne (part 2 - follow up!)

My face is slightly less covered in red mountains, but that's not because of the ACV...

Long story short time. I ended up going to the dermatologist because of how painful they were and he prescribed me medication. Before then the smell of ACV was getting a bit too-too much for me to handle. I was getting very little results of just slight redness reduction.

I'm going to say that the people who had ACV work for them were people with mild acne that was not caused by hormones. It makes sense that the chemicals inside of ACV would help your acne and help your skin cells but if you were like me with hormone caused acne I'd say forget it and don't waste the money.

Going to the dermatologist, though, was such a great decision! I got in very quickly and the doctor helped me right away. I'm on epiduo and two prescription medicines right now. Epiduo is drying out my skin really bad but that's apparently just a side effect that'll go away soon, so I'm not complaining too much.

So - the final verdict is no, AVC did not help my acne.

Edit: also, the dryness went away very very quickly and I got amazing results in general with the prescription medication and epiduo. I do not suggest AVC for skin like mine.

Using ACV ~ part 1

This summer I've been all about the DIY treatments for beauty. Imagine my "delight" when I got some bad acne.

So as I was searching around for a fun way to cure it - I decided to just try an old recipe my friends use to use.

ACV, or Apple cider vinegar, is an organic vinegar made from cider. It's rumored to have properties for weight loss, hair/nail strengthening, and acne curing.  The reason I say "rumored" and not proven is because it's not proven. Like a lot of organic, natural, DIY things it's usually up to how it works on the consumer /tester, which is why this is a 2 part blog post! In a month I'll  get back to you and tell you if it worked!

The brand I'm using is BRAGG's!
Even on the bottle (not shown) they're advertising for other health/organic recipes for other uses of ACV. Wowwy~!

My first thoughts when opening it was "wow there sure is a lot" and "wow this stuff smells so bad." It really, really stinks... It is vinegar though so I don't know what I expected.

Instead of ingesting it like some recipes tell you - I'm going to be using ACV as a toner.

The recipe I used was a 1:1 ratio of ACV and distilled water. And then, like a toner, you apply it to your face when you are done cleansing and let it dry before putting on serums or moisturizers. I haven't used anything besides cleansing or soothing toners until now.

My first try, I noticed it stings when you use the toner. The acidic properties of ACV are a bit stronger than I like - but only a day after and my skin is looking a bit less red. Hopeful hoping this is a sign!

I'll get back to you in a month with more results, and more DIY beauty tips until then!
